Repair the pullstart
Please wear eye protection before attempting this repair

STEP 1: Disassemble the starter to remove the damaged components.

STEP 2: To reassemble the starter, begin by inserting the spring in to the housing as shown in the photo.

Step 3: Insert the end of the spring into the slot in the starter spool. Place the starter spool into the starter housing.

Step 4: Wind the spring by holding the starter spool and string with the left hand and twisting the starter housing counterclockwise (arrow) with your right hand. Squeeze the end of the spring to insert it into the slot of the starter housing.

Step 5: To wind the string, begin by holding the string and starter spool with your left hand and then twist the starter housing counterclockwise (arrow) with your right hand 8 to 8 1/2 turns.

Step 6: While still holding the spring tension with your left hand, insert the end of the starter string through the hole in the starter housing. Pull the string all the way through.

Step 7: Insert the end of the string through the starter handle and tie a large, firm knot in the end of the string.

Step 8: Slowly release the spring tension and allow the string to wind on the spool. If the string lacks one or two inches from winding tighly, the shorten the string by pulling it taught, retying the knot, and cutting off the excess. If there is excessive slack in the string, then repeat steps 5-8 and increase the number of turns in step 5.
